Summer Community Resilience Intern

Greensboro Free Library Summer Community Resilience Intern
Dates of internship: June 3-July 27
Hours: 20 hours/week (flexible on Tues/Thurs/Fri and some special events)
Pay: $18/hour
Housing: free housing is provided in a shared residence at Sterling College in 
Craftsbury, VT
Transportation: assistance getting from Sterling to the Greensboro Library is available


The intern hired for this position will be part of a UVM-sponsored cohort of interns working
with a range of organizations in the Northeast Kingdom who are supporting Community
Resilience. The position includes participation in a week-long community orientation along
with 6-8 other UVM interns placed in partner organizations and weekly intern cohort
workshops for professional development, networking, and reflection. Questions about the

The Greensboro Free Library is a small but busy community library with a mission to bring its community together by providing resources and programs for lifelong learning, enrichment and access to the world of information. We operate with 3 part-time staff members – a Director, an Assistant Librarian, and a Youth Librarian – as well as 15 or more volunteers staffing our circulation desk in weekly shifts and trustees helping behind-the-scenes. The library is open 3 weekdays (T/Th/F) plus both weekend days for most of the year including June and is open every day in July and August. Over 1500 people visit the library monthly in July and August.  GFL hosts ongoing weekly and monthly programs for families and adults, from story times to book clubs, and plans a robust summer calendar of special talks and other events.


Job Description:
Work will include working with part-time staff and volunteers to:
 --provide customer service and programming and learn the behind-the-scenes work that
keeps the library running, from processing new books to preparing displays to writing PR
for programs.
 --update and revise the GFL website (www.greensborofreelibrary.org) as we
incorporate a new logo into our social media presence
 --Take the lead on planning and presenting a summer reading program or special event
 

Skills/interests needed:

 --Strong computer skills
 --Ability to shift gears when interrupted

   --Interest in supporting the mission of the Greensboro Free Library
 --Love of reading and lifelong learning
 --All majors are encouraged to apply
