Operational Sustainability Intern

The Operational Sustainability intern provides support for Citizens ongoing effort to reduce its environmental impacts and to include environmental sustainability into decision making across our footprint. The Operational Sustainability program is an integral part of the bank's enterprise wide sustainability strategy. In this role, you will learn about operations, carbon accounting, and sustainability integration at a large organization with over 1000 branch and office locations nationwide. This role will also give you a view into how a greater focus on ESG is shifting the way financial institutions think about their environmental and social impacts.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Researching, summarizing, and reporting on key market trends in operational sustainability including fleet electrification, renewable energy strategy, climate targets, and reporting.  
  • Supporting ongoing integration of environmental sustainability into building design, construction, and renovation in our branch footprint
  • Supporting integration of operational sustainability into overarching ESG narrative and communications strategy
  • Developing presentation materials and relevant graphics to share Citizens sustainability efforts in broader communications and marketing 
  • Increasing understanding and awareness of sustainability initiatives at Citizens including communication of key news, innovative ideas, and policy updates to colleagues through relevant channels
  • Working with internal stakeholders across the bank to move the bank's environmental sustainability strategy forward
  • Providing feedback/creative ideas

  • Research skills – You are able to effectively find key information, summarize, and document your findings.
  • Communication skills – You are able to clearly communicate findings and recommendations using PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Interpersonal skills – You have a desire to connect and collaborate with colleagues on the team to effectively complete your project and maximize your learning opportunities
  • Creativity – You are passionate about reducing environmental impacts and interested in integrating new ideas into Citizens business model, brand, and culture. 

Education:

  • Bachelors student in Sustainability or related field
  • Rising sophomore to spring 2024 graduate

Hours & Work Schedule

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: M-F
