Education Intern

Overview:
Over a ten week internship, the educational development intern will assist the museum’s executive director in conducting the data collection, research, analysis, and writing required to prepare a plan for the educational programming to be developed and implemented at the Vermont Granite Museum over the next five years. The plan will consist of an executive summary, a brief history and current status report of the museum’s educational programming, descriptions of its educational partnerships, overview of its educational vision, and a detailed description of its educational goals and the actions necessary to meet these goals. The plan will enable the museum to achieve its vision for growth in the area of educational programming for the museum and the museum’s Stone Arts School.

For interns to understand the scope of the museum’s initiatives, interns will have the opportunity to shadow or participate with others involved in educational programming, guided tours, stone arts classes, and sculpting.


Skills Desired:
·       Preference will be given to students in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies or Arts Education
·       Understanding of Vermont’s K-12 educational system and the educational standards required of Vermont students
·       Experience in developing education curricula
·       Ability and/or desire to develop educational programming in social studies and arts for learners of all ages
·       Previous training or teaching experience preferred
·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities for Education intern:
·       Identify the museum’s educational goals based on interviews with board members, staff, and volunteers
·       Research institutions with similar educational goals as the Vermont Granite Museum and its Stone Arts School
·       Perform research and analysis to identify the museum’s potential target audiences and their educational needs that align with the museum’s educational goals
·       Identify the scope of educational programming that could be offered at the museum and their requirements to carried out successfully
·       Design strategies to enhance and facilitate effective educational programs at the Vermont Granite Museum
·       With the assistance of the museum’s executive director, write a business plan for the museum’s educational program that outlines the action plans needed to meet the museum’s educational mission

Work Schedule:
Have the availability to work at least 200 hours total during the summer. Interns will work approximately 20+ hours a week between 9AM and 5PM, Monday through Saturday. The dates for the internship must fall between May 30 and August 4. The schedule is flexible within these parameters.

This internship is funded in part by the Statewide Internship Project Pilot, a partnership between the UVM Office of Engagement and the Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation (CVEDC). Enrolled UVM students will be paid no less than $20/hour and will be part of a cohort of Central Vermont interns who will participate in paid, weekly professional development workshops hosted by UVM and CVEDC. This program is part of a consortium with MiddWorks, working on behalf of Vermont communities through building and supporting a vibrant talent pipeline.
