Journalist Reporter

JOURNALIST/REPORTER, BASTILLE VENTURES.

THE STORY: The Bastille Ventures is looking for intellectually curious, driven students with experience and enthusiasm for writing and reporting. We are a new type of investment fund. And we intend to do things a bit differently than some of the others. We are seeking students who thrive within a group framework, and seek public exposure for the work they are doing. Ideally, undergraduate students who are versed in news coverage/writing and both a passion and aptitude for careful, thoughtful public-facing work.

Having just released a very public initiative, we have ample opportunities to showcase strengths. We expect interns to have opportunities to write articles, and, perhaps, broadcast. We are seeking students with a solid attention to detail and/or have experience in writing/reporting.  While there may be an opportunity to stay on following the conclusion of the internship; but that is not assured. So to set expectations, we anticipate providing tremendous experience and considerable content for individual student portfolios. 

THE APPEAL:

Role

·      Write and create video content that is useful, as well as with numerous oportunities to be independent and create a persona that carries through to our audience

·      Research and connect with industry leaders across a range of functions

·      Draft articles and report, with work in social media content, as well - basically endless opportunities to tap into individual creativity 

·      Conduct research on other campaigns, including corporate, political, entertainment and pop culture.

·      Special ad hoc projects and assignments, with a few discrete projects in mind, as well as new projects as business dictates

Skills And Qualifications

·      A current undergraduate student, with at least 1 year of work and/or internship experience, ideally in reporting or journalism and/or a commensurate level of personal experience, graduate, MBA, or law students are all eligible to apply

·      Research-skills and a previous research orientation hold particular appeal

·      Proficiency in the language of corporate marketing will be taught

·      Self-starter with strong written and qualitative understanding 

·      Well-organized, detail-oriented, and excels at managing multiple projects

·      Advanced communication skills and organized

·      Ability to work independently and on a small 3-person team, which include senior professionals
 

General Qualifications

·      An undergraduate student graduating in an upcoming semester or who is involved in a Co-op program with their university

·      Diversity is both encouraged and celebrated at our fund, and we enjoy training the next generation of hopeful founders, int'l relations and marketing extraordinaires

·      Tech, Finance, Marketing, Tech/Product, Communication/PR/Journalism with research interest/aptitude and/or experience preferred

·      Strong work ethic and a drive for perfection useful, but not at the cost of effectiveness

·      Ability to perform under pressure amid tight deadlines, and to structure a formulaic routine

·      Team player, self-starter, self-motivated, and entrepreneurial - we seek 5-tool athletes rather than thoroughbreds, in sports parlance 

·      Strong quantitative, qualitative, writing, and technical skills

·      Maturity and poise to work directly with founders/executives

·      Unimpeachable standards of conduct and innate ethical north star 

·      Attention to detail, strong writing and verbal communication skills

·      U.S. work authorization required; while we would prefer to accept all interns, we will not have the ability to sponsor applicants for work visa applications, now or in the immediate future

·      Intended to be remote; however, if located in Washington D.C., there is a hybrid in-person and remote opportunity

THE ACTION:

This is currently an unpaid internship, and while we intend to remedy this situation in the future, it is simply the hard reality while we raise the funds. Many schools offer stipends to help offset the compensation challenges, and we are more than happy to entertain and produce necessary material to apply for such consideration.
