2026 Summer Undergraduate Internship: Claims

The Quincy Mutual Internship Program offers undergraduate students a meaningful opportunity to explore the inner workings of the property and casualty insurance industry. While interns will gain broad exposure to the company through overview sessions, cross-department introductions, and professional development activities, their day-to-day experience will center on a deeper immersion within a designated department. Guided by experienced Quincy Mutual professionals, interns will build practical skills, expand their industry knowledge, and gain hands-on experience tailored to their specific area of focus. POSITION SUMMARY: 

This role will provide hands-on exposure to claims data analytics, process mapping, exposure to investigative techniques, policy interpretation, documentation and data entry, and customer service within the insurance industry. The intern will also shadow and gain insight from claims department leaders and adjusters, which may include traveling to field visits, inspections, attending mediations or trials. 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

Job Knowledge: 

This position will gain foundational knowledge of insurance operations, technical claims processing and building customer service skills. While no prior insurance experience is required, the ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
 

Communication, Relationship Building and Teamwork: Key duties will involve gathering and analyzing data and reporting to leadership, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking and resourcefulness. This role will collaborate with other interns and departments on projects and will develop positive working relationships with team members, management and customers. 

Delivery and Productivity: This position will focus on completion of project-based work. Success will be achieved by efficiently managing tasks, utilizing internal systems and following best practices and protocols. Analysis/Business Insight/ Compliance: This position will analyze claims data to find trends, build dashboards and create reports for management and will support data driven decisions to improve operational efficiency and customer experience. Leadership: This position will develop leadership skills through project management, data analysis and interaction with senior management. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program (rising junior or senior) in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or another related field. 

SKILLS: 

Ability to analyze complex data and to use sound judgment to solve problems. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel) is a plus. The ideal candidate must be an effective communicator, have excellent customer service skills and be detailed oriented with a willingness to ask questions. 

Eligibility & Program Details
• Full-Time Paid Experience (37.5 hours per week) / No credits offered
• Internship will follow a hybrid work schedule, at least three to four days per week in the office
• Office Location: 57 Washington Street, Quincy MA 02169
• This position requires the student to be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range: $18 – $20 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate which reflects the annual salary we reasonably expect to pay for this specific full-time position at the time of posting. The
actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
